Don't miss this all-lesbian, triple-threat comedy show featuring your host and producer Poppy Champlin along with special guests Julie Goldman and Roxana Ward. After a sold-out show in San Diego, a network taping in Chicago and a successful run in the South, the Queer Queens are on a roll and come to Phoenix for this special one night only event!
Poppy Champlin: There’s just something about Poppy! Thanks to her time at the famed Second City in Chicago, she’s a crackerjack at the craft of Improv and can magically turn anything into comedic fodder. Champlin is one of the quickest witted comedians working today with a wild and roaming spontaneity making each show a one of a kind experience.
She’s starred in specials on “Showtime” and “Logo,” appeared on “Oprah,” “Entertainment Tonight,” the “Joan Rivers Show” and “Comics Unleashed.” She’s also a favorite on the Atlantis and Olivia cruises and has opened for Ray Romano, Denis Leary, Bill Maher, Bill Hicks and Rosie O’Donnell.
Poppy currently can be seen performing her comedy in the HBO Documentary “All Aboard Rosie’s Family Vacation” and traveling around the country producing the Queer Queens of Qomedy show now in it’s seventh year.
Julie Goldman: Julie Goldman hails from New York and has been a featured performer on LOGO’s Big Gay Sketch Show for three seasons. She’s also a favorite on Olivia Cruises, has her own LOGO special and won a MAC award for the funniest female in NYC. Her stories are relatable and her delivery is infectious. She has appeared in The Sopranos, RuPauls Drag U and is currently producing “Nicest Thing,” a feature-length lesbian rom-com directed by Amanda Bearse. She also has a web series on www.autostraddle.com called “Julie and Brandy in your Box Office.”
Roxana Ward: Roxana Ward is a multi talented cabaret-comic extraordinaire from Laguna Beach, California. A pianist, musical arranger, producer, and conductor (Milwaukee Symphony), Ward has worked with legends Dolly Parton, Laura Nyro, Tennessee Ernie Ford, and Bea Arthur. Plus, she’s also an accomplished songwriter having penned the R&B single “Remember Who You Are,” recorded by the late Phyllis Hyman, which reached # 16 on Billboard’s jazz chart.
Her engaging blend of piano-bar comedy caused one reviewer to observe, “It’s as if Bette Midler and Steve Allen had a love child.” Ward is currently teaching and directing at Laguna Beach High School and she’s a favorite on Olivia Cruises. This is her third time being a Queen and there’s a good chance you’ll leave the show humming her silly songs.
